Jump On the Appwagon

If you have an iPhone, you know all about apps. But there are so many, how can you find ones you not only want, but might actually find useful? Surprise, there's an app for that! You should check out the recommending Appsaurus.

Pork Barrel Politics

There's really not much to say about this web site, which is all about the art project that it encasulates in its name: pictures of all the US Presidents holding a huge piece of cured pork. It's The Presidential Ham.

Friday Game

Straight from The Urn comes a physics/problem-solving game called Ragdoll Cannon. Keep trying; each level can be solved.

I love the Engrish instructions: "Try to make as little shoots as possible. Like in the golf."

Can It

Phone can
Is it an artistic statement about telephone poles and can/string communication? A butt can for passing smokers? A bird feeder? I don't know, but it's been there for a couple of weeks already.

Body Count

Here's a site that takes the time to catalog all the deaths in movies, so you don't have to (or in case you were curious). Sample entry: Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy... 1 and a squirrel. I also love their list of rules. It's all at BodyCounters.

Friday Game

Here's a physics-based game that nominally uses Wallace and Gromit to promote learning about intellectual property, but you'll still be challenged to solve many of the puzzles and explore the map. Have fun with Sprocket Rocket.

Hot Rod Update

As noted in this previous post, there's hot rod in the yard behind mine. Lo and behold, this weekend's nice weather resulted in some action on the hot rod front.

First, a front end arrived. Aha! It's a Nova!
New (mismatched) front end

Then a flatbed truck arrived to take it away.
Up, up, and away

New owner? Off to a shop to complete the retrofit? Requisitioned by the government for a crack undercover operation? Theories are rife!

Hero Gear

So you're a superhero, but where do you go to get a replacement cape or a secret identity? Easy! You fly (or take your hero-branded transport) to New York and shop at the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Company!

(Yes, it's 826NYC, the writing center supported by McSweeney's.)

Historic Street View

Google Maps' street view is a very handy way to "see" a map location, but Google's open interface to their map service can also be used in some very clever ways. In this case, you take a historic photograph (pun intended) and overlay it on the current street view to get an interesting then-and-now. You work it like regular Google Maps, zooming in to areas until you find a pin/photo combination. It's a growing effort at Historypin.

As an example, check out this famous photo of VE Day in New York.

Friday Game

This one is a little silly, and I'm not sure why it's named as it is, since you use rockets to blow up people (and weird spikey-headed monsters), but the cheers and applause you get when you do cracks me up every time. You'll have to figure out each level as you go, and good luck with the caves, but you'll test your skill and determination as you try to Destroy the Village.

License to Shop

Shopping cart numbering
I'm not sure what the point is of number the shopping carts is. Maybe they're just trying to make it easier for the hourly-wage help to count them?

What Would You Do For...?

The internet is a shared experience, and often causes paths of real-life people to cross, whether it's Facebook, craigslist, a discussion forum, or an online game such as World of Warcraft.

This site, however, provides a new (and cheap) path for such interactions. I think it's summed up best by its subtitle: "The place for people to share things they're willing to do for $5". It's fiverr.

The Day that Never Happened

I just remembered I took this picture, so it's a little old, but still good. Like "wtf" good.
