Snowless in Seattle

It's been a couple of weeks and the snow is finally gone. Well, except for the occasional pile of dirt-covered snow, the remnant of a plowing. But one thing does remain: the gravelly sand that was spread everywhere to aid traction, for both wheels and heels.

Even a walk down the block is filled with the crunch of this "sand" underfoot. And if you wear any footwear with a tread, you'll be picking up little stony hitchhikers. Walk across a tile floor, and it sounds like you're wearing tap shoes. Pivot on your shoe and someone might mistake the sound for a burglar cutting the glass on a case of jewels.

I guess in my own way, though, I'm helping with the cleanup.
